The first inhabitants of Hawaii may have reached the islands as early as 300 CE from the Marquesas Islands (Wikipedia, 2019). From then the Hawaiian Islands have gone through many phases until it became the 50th state of the United States of America on August 21, 1959. Capt. James Cook, the British explorer, and navigator is generally credited with having made the first European discovery of Hawaii. He was also the contributor to one of the first maps of Hawaii.

The goal of this digital library is to present various types of publicly available digital resources related to Hawaii that were created or published during different phases of Hawaii’s historical timeline (political, economic and social history). This digital collection will serve a wide range of interests related to Hawaiian history.
